Chad Mendes (born May 1, 1985 in Hanford, California) is an American mixed martial arts fighter who recently signed to fight as a featherweight in the WEC organization.[1].
Mendes currently trains with Team Alpha Male and one of his key training partners is Urijah Faber. He is currently ranked #7 in the Palace Fighting Championship featherweight division [2].

High School Wrestling Career[]
Mendes finished 8th in the state of California (103 weight class), wrestling for Hanford High School. Chad Mendes also received honors for being a Cadet All-American [3].
NCAA Wrestling Career[]
Mendes wrestled for California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA. Mendes was the runner-up in the NCAA Chad Mendes finished his career with an overall record of 64-14. As a Senior, Mendes finished the year with a 30-1 record, being ranked #1 in the nation for most of the season. He eventually lost to Ohio State's Jaggers in the title match for the 141 weight class [4]. Mendes received All-American honors both in 2005 for the 125 weight class and again in 2008 for the 141 weight class. In 2008, Mendes also received Pac-10 Wrestler of the Year honors [5].
MMA career[]
After the conclusion of his NCAA Wrestling Career, Mendes began to train with the mixed martial arts team Team Alpha Male [6]. Mendes has begun fighting in the Featherweight (MMA) division and trains with the likes of Urijah Faber. Mendes was recently a feature piece of Sherdog's Prospect Watch with an entire article written about him [6].
Mendes is currently sponsored by Clinch Gear, and recently signed a sponsorship deal with Amp Energy.
WEC[]
Mendes successfully made his WEC debut against Erik Koch on March 6, 2010 at WEC 47.[7] He won the fight via unanimous decision, despite a cut over his right eye that was examined during the fight to see if he could continue.
